DermaV

More than 3 million people in the U.S. suffer from rosacea, a common skin condition in which broken blood vessels appear on your face in the form of small red bumps around your nose, cheeks, or chin. At Dermio Dermatology in Munster, Dyer, Valparaiso, and Crown Point IN. Indiana, Dr. Soleymani can help reduce the appearance of rosacea with DermaV, a pulsed dye laser used to treat vascular skin conditions safely and effectively. What is the DermaV?

A pulsed dye laser, DermaV is often referred to as a vascular laser because it is regularly used to treat a wide variety of vascular. Most doctors use the DermaV laser to treat and relieve the symptoms of the following conditions:

  • Rosacea
  • Broken capillaries
  • Port wine stains
  • Poikiloderma (red pigment on the neck or chest)
  • Strawberry hemangiomas
  • Spider veins
  • Hyperpigmentation such as freckles and sunspots
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Psoriasis

The DermaV works by generating different colors of laser beams using a dye. The laser energy is delivered in pulses and the color generated depends entirely on the area and skin condition you hope to target.

As a vascular laser, the DermaV directly targets hemoglobin, the red protein inside blood cells inside your blood vessels, leaving your surrounding skin entirely undamaged. The laser is extremely effective in fading and eliminating very large blood vessels and individual spots on your body.

Am I a good candidate for the DermaV?

The DermaV laser works best on isolated areas and individual spots and is less effective in treating larger areas. For patients hoping to combat the effects of vascular conditions like rosacea and broken capillaries, this vascular laser can dramatically reduce redness and inflammation.

While the DermaV is safe for all skin types, it is not typically used on darker skin tones, as the transmission of the wavelength in the laser is hindered by the melanin in the skin that is rich in pigment. It is highly effective in treating pale skin and light olive skin tones.

Before starting DermaV treatments, tell Dr. Soleymani if you have a history of herpes or cold sores, or if you have recently taken blood thinners or the acne medication Accutane®, as you may not be suited for laser therapy.

What results can I expect from DermaV therapy?

VBeam laser treatments typically take anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours, depending on the area you want treated. The number of treatments you need depends entirely on your skin condition, skin tone, and treatment site. Rosacea patients typically see dramatic results after three to five visits.

After your first session, you may notice that your pigmentation areas seem darker than before. This should last for about a week before your new skin begins to surface. As your redness or hyperpigmentation fades, you will start to notice clear, spot-free skin surfacing over the coming weeks and months.
